For the iconic building of the New Market in Bratislava, we developed a comprehensive conceptual analysis and energy audit with the aim of radically increasing the building's energy efficiency and reducing its operational carbon footprint. As it is a national cultural monument, we approached the entire assignment with maximum respect for its architecture and specific character.
Our strategy focused on two main categories of solutions. The first was low-cost organizational and technical measures with an immediate positive impact on the operation of the building. The second category was deeper technological and construction modifications that, although requiring a higher initial investment, bring significant and long-term energy savings in heating, cooling and ventilation.
An important part of our expertise was the assessment of the microclimate inside the building. We carried out detailed CFD simulations of the current air conditioning distribution system, based on which we identified weak points and proposed precise measures to optimize the airflow. The result of our work is a comprehensive study and energy audit with a clear assessment of both embedded and operational carbon, which provides the city with an exact and reliable basis for investment decisions aimed at the energy sustainability of the market hall.
